Thank you to our supporter SELA Collaborative for the great video showcasing the work we do at the Florence-Firestone Community Organization.
Every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. a free social peer to peer class is hosted at our facility. Many of the family members express their struggles pertaining to children suffering with substance abuse, others from domestic violence and oppression. After the two-hour session, the families participate in a crocheting/knitting class. The public is invited.
Every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. we host a free class on the prevention abuse of Alcohol and Substance. Participants are asked to share personal stories and answer the topic of the day. After the one-hour session, the participants are hosted to a free meal and beverages. Members of the public are invited.
Food is an important part of community justice. We partner with various food banks to provide us with fresh vegetables, canned food, meats and poultry, dairy products plus breads and beverages. The food giveaway program is held every other Saturday of the month (please see our calendar) at our front patio area from 10am-1pm.
Through our various supporters, every year we provide free backpacks and school supplies to hundreds of children who reside in our area. Included in the backpacks are writing notebooks, ink pens, pencils, erasers, safety glue, crayons and other items as needed. We find it necessary to provide the necessary tools to our future community leaders.
With the nationwide opioid crises, we are proud to be a partner in the fight against drug overdosing as the official distributor in our community of the overdose prevention drug Narcan. We provide the kits to members of the community for free and teach the basics of using the preventive care item. Please email us at ffcola90001@gmail.com for further information.
Every year we present events that benefit the families directly. We feel that community worthy events such as the Easter Bunny Free Baskets, National Night Out, Haunted Halloween House, Thanksgiving Turkey and Food Giveaway, and Children's Holiday-Christmas Toy Giveaway provide a safe place where families can gather and enjoy the free festivities.
We work closely with County agencies and community partners to provide resource fairs for residents and businesses.
The Board of Directors and Ambassadors wish you a great New Year!
